Stay fit whatever time-zone you’re in
For all its dynamism, travel can often prove detrimental to your workout regimen. Whether you’re on that much-awaited vacation or a hectic business conference, being away from your home, gym and city can take a serious toll on your diet, sleep patterns and other healthy lifestyle habits you may pride yourself on.
Luckily, there’s hope. Chances are you are staying in a five-star hotel that provides gym facilities with personalised trainers and a temperature-controlled swimming pool. Look around and you find jogging, running or walking tracks in the vicinity. Or better still, a hiking trail if you’re staying close to the hills. All you’ve got to do is explore your whereabouts. Thanks to technology, there is a whole slew of workout videos online and apps on your fingertips. Or, find a walk-in Yoga or Pilates class happening nearby. Even on the busiest of trips, it pays to take out time for practice and be your own coach and your own cheerleader. Of course, it’s more helpful to have a fitness pal to gauge your progress.
While it can be tempting to try out various food options and stock on snacks from the nearest tuck shop on the go, fitness demands consistency in however many meals you believe in. You don’t need a gym trainer to remind you it’s 20% of what you eat and 80% of how your workout that adds up to your overall fitness.
An elaborate all-you-can-eat buffet is likely to feature healthy, low-calorie organic options. You just have to navigate through the maze of the cuisines competing for your attention and eat mindfully. It’s never too late to get back on the fitness bandwagon. Between windows of slumber, meals, work and socialising, you could go on scrolling Instagram posts on fitness forever or get off the couch to make that workout happen. Even on the busiest of days, you always have that choice.
For the love for Chai
How do you know you’re addicted to chai? It’s just that sheer sense of grogginess right before you’ve had that strong cup of tea first thing in the morning, which dramatically changes everything and sets the tone of the day. And, a well-made brew is a clue that you're good to go. Sounds familiar? You’re not alone.
In Pakistan, chai forms an integral part of our culture, extending beyond class, creed, ethnicity and politics. It wakes you up, makes you more productive and creative, gets the conversation ball rolling, makes meetings bearable, aids awkward interactions by breaking the ice and, is a staple with snacks from cookies to samosas.
Intertwined with hospitality, tea is a way to welcome guests into your home, office or casual meetups in cafés. Whether you prefer the textured, mixed chai of the karak variety or tea bags dipped in boiling water from the kettle, there is a charm to chai you cannot deny. It even accompanies you on your travels. The wafting aroma of a steaming cup of tea paired with crispy, fried pakoras is an essential ingredient for road trips to hilly areas.
From high-pressure business meetings to informal gatherings of friends or family, there are few things that chai cannot fix. That’s just how it works, the all-pervading love for chai. In the words of C.S. Lewis, you can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.
