By virtue of its excellent location, the deep sea
port of Gwadar is visualized to become a regional
district serving the commercial incoming and outgoing
traffic of the oil-rich Middle East, the heavily
populated South Asia, resource-rich Central Asia
and the economically emerging China.
About 460 km west of Karachi, Gwadar has emerged
as a place of great strategic value, enhancing Pakistan's
importance in the whole region. Keeping in view
its utmost significance, the Government of Pakistan
has declared Gwadar a duty free port and a free
economic zone. With development and recreation programme,
efficient implementation, and the government’s special
attention, Gwadar is soon turning into a city comparable
to Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.
There is undoubtedly an abundance of scenic beauty,
energy and sense of progress about the place. Travellers
too are turning to this remarkable land which has
been off the trail for way too long. The un-spoilt
pristine stretches of sand, unique mixture of sun,
emerald sea and the entertainment, coupled with
the essence of local culture give Gwadar a distinct
identity.
Entry
Air:
Gwadar at present has a smaller airport operating
to cater the local population, PIA and Air Blue
being the main airlines flying to Karachi almost
daily. With the expected growth post development,
the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan has earmarked
3000 acres of land, for a new airport which will
be given international status and will operate under
the open sky policy.
By Road:
The closest and easiest city accessible from Gwadar
is Karachi. The new Makran Coastal Highway has reduced
travel time to Karachi from 48 hours to only 7 hours.
There are several buses shuttling between Gwadar
and Karachi. Car rental companies also offer cars
for a negotiable fees and deposit. Weather
Situated 300 meters above sea level, the climate
of Gwadar is dry and hot. It is placed in the ‘warm
summer and mild winter’ temperature region. The
mean temperature in the hottest month (June) remains
between 31 - 32 degrees C and in winter (January)
it varies from 18 to19 degrees C.
